hijack this log - dl.exe

hi. i have the dl.exe problem and don't see a solid fix for it yet. figured i'd post a hijack this log. running windows xp. everytime i delete dl.exe it comes back of course. cannot connect to the net through any means. i have dial up. will be checking back with my mom's computer or from work. thanks so much for any help provided. would hate to lose all my media by formatting as i've read elsewhere it can infect various hard drives.

Dl.exe can be any number of infections. Cleaning it up is going to be very difficult if not almost impossible under dialup because of the download tools needed to potentially defeat this (Ewido, a (trojan removing) tool is almost 10MB alone). Is there any way you could temporarily arrange to connect it into a high speed connection if you regain your dialup connectivity (USB ethernet is easiest) to update all your 'critical updates'? I don't even see evidence of a running real-time antivirus tool.


You have traces of a vundo (trojan) infection:Download the following file to diskette from another computer for use on the infected PC:



Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

Click the Scan for Vundo button.

Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.

You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.

Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.



Also try running the following:

Go to Start > Run and type: CLEANMGR.EXE and hit enter.
When prompted select the C: drive and click ok.
Check the boxes for:

• Temporary Internet Files
• Downloaded Program Files
• Recycle Bin
• Temporary Files

Click OK or Enter



Another potentially helpful option may be to acquire the $30 malware cleanup tool - SpySweeper from a local vendor or retailer.

well i dled some things on cable at work and brought home to install. ewido found and fixed several things, but then could still not get on the net and dl.exe always reappeared. after installing avast, i can no longer open any .exe file on my computer (says i may not have permission, but i am logging in as admin so no idea about this.) so another hijack this log will not be on it's way unfortunately since i cannot open hijack this. i'll try to tinker with it a bit when i get home and if no luck i suppose i will reformat. a pity to lose so much media with no way to recover it. (yay dial up). thanks for trying to help.
