Question Problems again!

I have done what ya'll advise us to do before proceeding. I reconfigured my AdAware the way you say and ran it - it only found 1 tracking cookie, 2o7.txt (?).

The real problem is this: I switched my security software to what ya'll suggest - I disconnected from the network, uninstalled McAfee (all 4 parts), and installed Avast. I also installed Agnitum Outpost Firewall, SpyBlaster, and SpyGuard.

After Avast was installed, it scanned and said it found a virus called "WildTangent", but that was the last of it.

My PC is acting extra weird today (you know, it still has issues regarding the inability to run recovery any-kind-of-way) - I minimized this screen a few minutes ago to run my HiJack log - when I restored my screen, I tried to use my back button to get back to the forum home page - it froze up and told me that www.d-a-l.com couldn't be found (HUH?) and I couldn't get out - no kind of way - ended up having to turn the power off for a minute and reboot using my Acronis boot disk!

Since I had been using Netscape, I tried to get back to you - it told me that netscape couldn't be found! So, now I'm using Opera - so far so good!

Please, someone, what is wrong with this thing!? It functions - sorta - but I never know what it may do! I haven't been able to login to my website to edit for almost a week - but I can access the other sites I have at this particular host.

Is it quite possible that my HD is damaged and it's just snowballing out of control?

Oh, please help me, please! I will do the recovery console editing if someone will give me a pinch or some direction!

so, here's my log: (TYVM in advance)

Re: Problems again!

One more thing, I had a really tough time setting up "SpywareBlaster" - what is "CoolWebSearch"? It's sure on there a lot - but in the end, I DID enable all protection. ?????

Re: Problems again!

Welcome to DAL,

Please download and install Ewido trojan scanner and run from safe mode please described below.

Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
[*]When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
[*]When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
[*]From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
[*]After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
[*]Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
[*]If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
[*]When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Post the log Ewido makes back here please and a new hijackthis log. Thanks.

Safe Mode

Now reboot into safe mode by tapping your F8 key upon restart and safe mode screen appears, select safe mode and press enter.

Now run Ewido thanks.

Red face Re: Problems again!

Hi - I made a little mess of things. After I installed Ewido, I scanned (it took about 20 minutes) & saved the log. (It found 2 infections - the 1st one was, I think, Quickmedia, and the 2nd was definitely "Adware.Trymedia" - both were automatically fixed).

Anyway, I restarted in safe mode and did it over - it took close to 2 hours! I saved that one and did the HJT scan & saved that as well. Restarted back to normal & got into this forum. Guess what! I couldn't find the file! Ugh!

To make a long story short, I am sending you the HJT log that was run in SAFE mode and the Ewido log that was run in reg mode and is already clean.

I'm sorry - I seem to bring a lot of my worries upon myself!

Here are the logs:

Arrow Re: Problems again!

Hi I have folowed your directions and it seems I ran into an Enormous problem! I had no trouble with "hoster.exe" - other than it must be super quick, because I didn't even think it did anything (?). No problems with the Uninstall Manager of HiJackThis. (list below).

BUT, when I attempted the Panda scan - It did not download (I was instructed to click "Abort Connection") because Avast caught it trying to download a virus/worm called Win32CTX - I was able to get this much info: ...acs.pandasoftware.com/activescan/as5free/motor.cab\pska...

Just out of curiousity and a desire for knowledge - are the BOLD entries on the HJT log an indication of errors or malware or...?

By the way, I uninstalled that Outpost firewall -it acted too weird - so I went back to Windows Firewall - should I have any others?

Re: Problems again!

Hi,

No problem with Avast, it is detecting the virus definitions installed by panda to scan your computer. Same thing happens to me as I have Avast also, we will use BitDefender in a moment.

Windows firewall is better than nothing but just barely, i suggest you disable that and get free version of Sunbelt/Kerio firewall, I have that firewall also.

http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm

Bold indications are websites some are good and some are bad especially in the R0,R1,R2 etc. and the 016's and some 09's. We will tend to those in a little bit.

This should work it does on my computer while useing Avast:

Go here http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html and run an online scan with BitDefender (you will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan). When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan" and grab a coffee.

When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab. Click on "Click here to export scan". Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop. Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser. Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here. Post back and let us know what it found (post the log).

And post a new HJT log also..

Unhappy Re: Problems again! and again!

There's a link below - cabs... DO NOT CLICK IT!!!! IT IS VERY BAD!!!!!

Hi Neal! Thanks for your diligence! I brag about D-A-L to everybody! You're even included on my website.

I'm getting ready to follow these latest instructions. However, I need to know this (and perhaps you need to know this too) - I installed Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard - so now it seems I have ample protection - notice I said SEEMS? Today, Ad-Aware just found 11-casalemedia.com, questionmarket.com, atdmt.com, trafficmp.com, edge.ru4.com, tribalfusion.com, live365.com, zedo.com, 2o7.net, advertising.com, and doubleclick.net. A few minutes later, I did a scan with Avast and it caught this attempting to get me: xxxx infected link removed by Neal Also said something about it being a worm and said Win32:VB-MM(Wrm)

Then I forgot to write down what I was doing, but I know how it happened. A thing called Popcaploader tried to "get me" - I was going to play a game on Comcast (you would think it would be fairly safe) but when it told me I would have to load some player or something I cancelled it - yet, later on that Popcaploader thing tried me!

What I don't understand is I've got all of these supposed protectors - and sh** still gets to me! What good is Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard? Every time I go online something happens. It's almost not worth it anymore - I hate thinking that though - what can be done, short of beating up all of these creepy people writing this BS and infecting us good people?
