WinAntivirus Pro 2006 useless or Spyware?

My friends family has a relatively new computer and they keep getting viruses or trojans. They said they bought a program WinAntivirus Pro 2006 to stop it it didn't detect anything.

Is WinAntivirus Pro 2006 spyware or what's going on it doesn't detect anything I had to install AVG free and spybot and when I ran the scan Spybot picked up WinAntivirus Pro 2006 as spyware or something because it wanted to delete everything.

Even after updating WinAV it still didnt' detect the Trojans, what's going on should they disable WinAntivirus Pro and use AVG.

It's not my computer so as of now I guess they don't have any virus software running unless they manually open AVG.

any help or info would be appreciated I can paste the logs at a later time if need be.

Re: WinAntivirus Pro 2006 useless or Spyware?

I just found this information about it.

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/p...x?id=453098448

Does this mean it's Spyware or a Trojan?

And look at this it's strange.

Re: WinAntivirus Pro 2006 useless or Spyware?

It is malware.

Have them do the following and suggest that they post that scan here if they require assistance:

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
DO NOT RUN ANY OTHER OPTIONS UNTIL REQUESTED TO.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Not likely.

They are a listed rogue application on the 'Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products' List:
