manic CD drive

someone on d-a-l has susggested I post on this forum for my problem.

My CD Drive is playing up. The tray suddenly springs into life and and goes in and out. Sometimes it stops only to start again. Occassionallly it stops for a long period. There is no consistency it what it's doing.

While it's playing up, it sometimes throws up on the screen the autoplay choice, sometimes it's searching for autoplay and the cursor has a disk attached to it. When it gets to this stage the system sometimes freezes.

Any suggestions?
