If you are thinking about switching (using a real-time AV tool only one at a time), there are some good free Antivirus programs that are decent, including AVG and Avast!.
AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

if i download this AVG is it gonna be only a demo or a version? or is it gonna be the real software that i can have at all times without having to have a expiration date?

The number of unfixable items is quite surprising (you did check off the items to fix, right?) - were they any error messages displayed? Some running processes may be difficult to remove unless the processes are first ended (CRLT+ALT+Delete - in Task Manager) or some items may be protected by other running processes (possibly in TEMP files). Running AVG in SAFE MODE (reboot tapping F8 key) may yield better results.

There may be interference issues being caused by TEMPORARY files:

Clean out TEMPORARY FILES:
To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp

Install Options:
  • Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!
  • Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.

It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Select the ‘Cleaner’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ’Windows’ TAB up front by default.
  • Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
  • Optionally, Uncheck ‘Recently Typed URLs’ option (potentially still useful)
  • Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
  • Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.

Run the procedures found here and post a HijackThis LOG:

[B] Ok I will get back to u once its being installed.. Aslo on AVG it had said new updates for the anti-virus software and I clicked it to install new updates for it and it said the file was courrpted to use another file, im not sure wat that meant, and in the virus vault in AVG it has one of the trojans i jus discovered from the scan i did for my computer. I guess this explains why my computer has been acting funny

Re: need help installing a good virus protection! computer gone bad

I personally have seen the (free overloaded) AVG server to be quite unreliable for many free version downloads. Others have found it to be reasonably functional. You get what you pay for I guess. It and Avast are ADEQUATE tools but are not top 5 candidates in my opinion and in technical reviews.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling AVG, if necessary or try Avast. Or try my current favorite NOD32 (I hardly know it is there) - 30 day trial:
