Needing help with a slow PC

Hello
While searching the web for some help this site was mentioned many times, hope you can help.
Recently my PC has become very slow and often freezes, I am constantly bombarded with pop-ups, although my pop-up blocker is on. I also regularly get the message saying the Virtual Memory is low, in Task Manager the CPU usage is nearly always at 100%.
I have downloaded and ran Spybot and Adaware and things tend to improve slightly for a short time.
I have Norton Internet Security 2006, which I have been told is not very good, should I change to another such as AVG.
I am including the Hijack This Log.

If anything, NIS is a resource hog depending upon what feature your are running. Both AVG and NIS provide ADEQUATE antivirus protection.

You are not running HijackThis (HJT) from a desired location. You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items – to avoid horrible clutter and/or potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.

Create a new folder in your C: Drive.
Name the FOLDER HijackThis (or HJT) such as C:\Program Files\HijackThis or C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file into it.
Run HJT from there (and revise your shortcut accordingly).

You have acquired a LOP infection.

Please Download NoLop to your desktop from one of the links below...

First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
Double click NoLop.exe to run it
Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
<<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>
When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log

--If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to your system32 folder then rerun the program.--

Read over the following directions. Ask if anything appears unclear to you.

Clean out TEMPORARY FILES procedures:
To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp

Install Options:

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!
Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.

It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Do not run CCleaner until requested later.

We will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Accordingly, it is probably a good idea to print out the following directions or copy them to a text file on your desktop using NOTEPAD. Read these instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about anything.

SELECT HijackThis FIX ITEMS: Scan with HijackThis and place a check next to these items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vga axis free eggs] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\APPLICation Data\JUNKBLAHVGAAXIS\WARNOOZE.exe
O4 - Startup: csrss.lnk = ?

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.

HIDDEN FILES: To make sure you can see all hidden files, please follow the directions here

SAFEMODE: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).

Delete TEMPORARY FILES: Now, use CCleaner to hunt down the most common temporary file locations and the temporary file clutter contained therein (and of possible malware hiding places):

Run CCleaner .

FIRST-TIME USE:
Select the ‘Options’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), ‘Advanced’ BUTTON, and then UNCHECK the ‘Only delete files in Windows Temp Folders older than 48 hours’.

Select the ‘Cleaner’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ’Windows’ TAB up front by default.

Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
Optionally, Uncheck ‘Recently Typed URLs’ option (potentially still useful)
Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.

***** Clean out the Recycle Bin for items removed below, ONLY once you have regained the full functional use of your PC.

Navigate to these files or folders using Windows Explorer (OR Start -> Search) and delete (if present):

DELETE FOLDERS:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\APPLICation Data\JUNKBLAHVGAAXIS

POST A REVISED HIJACKTHIS LOG for review:
Reboot and post a new HijackThis log with any feedback as appropriate - how things are now behaving: any new or remaining apparent issues.

Hello again
I have done as you suggested although when i selected the FIX ITEMS in HijackThis one of the items was deleted but for the item "O4 - Startup: csrss.lnk = ?" I received the following message
-Unexpected error occurred!
Error #52 (Bad file name or number) in Sub GetLongPath(?.exe).

Please send a report to merijn@spywareinfo.com, mentioning what you were doing, and what version of Windows you have.

This message has been copied to your clipboard.-and this item would not delete.

After running CCleaner things seemed to improve for a while but after an hour or so everything slowed down again.
I am no longer getting the pop-ups but everything else is really slow not just on the internet but with any programs or applications that i try to use, I am also still getting the "Virtual Memory Minimum too low" message quite often.

The error message is a request to provide feedback to the developer of HijackThis for possible improvement purposes.

We will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Accordingly, it is probably a good idea to print out the following directions or copy them to a text file on your desktop using NOTEPAD. Read these instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about anything.

Download and install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (AVG AS - formally known as Ewido anti-spyware 4.0 - uninstall any previous version first).

Click the Download BUTTON. On the next page click the Download now BUTTON.
Save and then install (Run) from the save location.
Open/Run AVG Anti-Spyware
Wait a few moments and AVG Anti-Spyware should Auto update itself (note date of last update). If it doesn't update, click the update ICON at top of screen:

Wait for the update to download and install
This is very important to get the LATEST updates.
Click on the Status ICON
- Under "Your computers Security"
  Click change status on Resident shield to inactive (ONLY consider activation of that feature once you are clean)
Click on the Scanner ICON at the top of the window
Click on the Settings tab then select Recommended Actions and choose Quarantine
When updating has finished. Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

We will be using this tool in a later step.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Login on your usual account.

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware , and run a full scan:

Click on the default Status ICON and select the Scan now LINK.

OR
Click on the Scanner ICON . Select the Scan TAB.
- Select Complete System Scan. AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin to scan your system.

If AVG Anti-Spyware finds anything it will list them in the Preview WINDOW:
- Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine, if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
- Select Apply all actions at the bottom of the window (and the items found will be quarantined – and recoverable, if any items are needed back).
When the scan has completed, click on the Save Scan Report button and save the scan to your Desktop where it can be easily found.
Copy and paste the AVG Anti-Spyware scan results into your next post.
Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

Try removing csrss.lnk entry again. REBOOT and Post your latest HijackThis log. And, let us know how your PC is now behaving – any changes in behavior.
