OK. Follow these instructions carefuly. Take it one step at a time and be sure to read through them completely before beginning in case you have a question.

1. Please disable SpySweeper, as it may hinder the removal of some HijackThis entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
   
   To disable SpySweeper:
   1. Open it, click > Options over to the left then > Program Options > Uncheck "load at windows startup".
   2. Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
   3. Uncheck "home page shield".
   4. Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".
2. Please disable AVG Anti-Spyware by opening the program and on the Status page - beside "Resident Shield" click on "change status" so that it says "inactive" for it may interfere with our HJT fix.
   • Remember to reactivate this feature when all our work is finished.
3. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below being careful to get only these:

   Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Exit Hijack This.
4. Reboot into safe mode.
   Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
5. Delete Files/Folders
   Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):
   
   C:\Program Files\NewDotNet
   
   
6. After that, Reboot.
7. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.
8. Post Logs
   • New Hijack This Log

Also, I see that you're running Norton's AV along with Verizon Internet Suite. Do you recognize this:

as being the same software as included in the Verizon Suite?

Running two AV's, both with real-time protection running, is not a good thing. Is Norton's up to date? Is the subscription current? If you kept one, which would you want to keep (a deciding factor may be if one of them offers both an AV and Firewall).

An error message came up after reboot saying "error loading c:\progra~1\newdot~1\newdot~1.dll

I'm not sure if O23 - Service: DvpApi (dvpapi) - Command Software Systems, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Command Software\dvpapi.exe is included in the verizon Suite. I recently installed verizon DSL and the security suite is a 30 day free trial. Norton AV is update and what I have been using. I will get rid of one.

I would go ahead and get rid of Verizon's Internet Suite if Norton's has subscription time left. If it's set to expire soon, I can give you some links for some free AV's and Firewall's if you want to go that route.

In the meantime, let's see if we can get rid that registry entry that is trying to run NewDotNet.

1. Go to Start > Run
   Type:
   • regedit
   Click OK.
   • On the leftside, click to highlight My Computer at the top.
   • Go up to "File > Export"
     • Make sure in that window there is a tick next to "All" under Export Branch.
       Leave the "Save As Type" as "Registration Files".
       Under "Filename" put backup
   • Choose to save it to C:\ or somewhere else safe so that you will remember where you put it (don't put it on the desktop!)
   • Click save and then go to File > Exit.
   This is so the registry can be restored to this point if we need it. It may take a minute. Just let it go until it's done.
2. Please copy the following text in the code box below into a new Notepad Document by highlighting it and then using Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.
   • Make sure there is no empty line above REGEDIT.

That log looks better. Are you still getting the error about the .dll trying to load? If the NewDotNet folder is still there, can you now delete it since the .dll isn't in use?

I am no longer getting the .dll error at startup. Also, the NewDotNet folder is gone.

Below is my standard closing speech. You may already have some of these programs and/or performed some of these steps. Use what you can and skip the rest.

1. Please re-hide hidden files. (If applicable)
   Follow the directions you used earlier to show hidden files and undo the changes you made so that hidden files are actually hidden once again.
2. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
   This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
   • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
     Under Main choose: Select All
     Click the Empty Selected button.
   If you use Firefox browser
   • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
     Click the Empty Selected button.
     NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
   If you use Opera browser
   • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
     Click the Empty Selected button.
     NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
   Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
   For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
   
3. Create New Restore Point and Delete Old Restore Points.
   Step #1 - Create a New Restore Point
   
   Go - Start>Programmes>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore>Create a New Restore point.
   
   Step #2 - Flush All Previous Points
   
   Go - Start>Programmes>Accessories>System Tools>Disc Cleanup>"More Options" Tab>Remove All But Most Recent Point.
   
4. Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
   • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
   • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
   • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
5. You should also have a good firewall. Here are 2 free ones available for personal use:
   • If you already have a software firewall, you can skip this step.
   • Choose only 1 firewall.
   • Kerio Personal Firewall
   • ZoneAlarm
6. You should also have a good Anti-Virus (these are also free for personal use):
   • If you already have an Anti-Virus program then make sure it is up to date.
     Choose only 1 Anti-Virus Progam.
   • AVG Anti-Virus
   • Avast Home Edition
   It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
   
7. To keep your operating system up to date you should do a windows update monthly. Here's the link:

8. And to keep your system clean, run these free malware scanners weekly,
   • AdAware SE Personal
   • Spybot Search & Destroy
   and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.
