HiJackThis log

A friend posted a hijack this log on here for me, and I was told I needed to run it from my C drive. I've done that so here's the new log.

Re: HiJackThis log

Go to 'Add/Remove Programs' (Control Panel) and remove:

SpywareBot

Considered a Spyware remover of somewhat dubious repute and,at least, potentially interfering with more trustworthy tools:

http://www.castlecops.com/modules.ph...ery=SpywareBot

Additionally,
You are not running HijackThis (HJT) from a desired location. You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items – to avoid horrible clutter and/or potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.
  • Create a new folder in your C: Drive.
  • Name the FOLDER HijackThis (or HJT) such as C:\Program Files\HijackThis or C:\HJT and
  • Move the HijackThis.exe file into the newly created FOLDER.
  • Run HJT from there (and revise your shortcut accordingly).

POST A REVISED HIJACKTHIS LOG for review:
Reboot and post a new HijackThis log with any feedback as appropriate - how things are now behaving: any new or remaining apparent issues.

Need to know what your issues are, if still present.

Re: HiJackThis log

Please indicate what issues this PC is encountering - slowdowns, popups, etc.

If you are running two (2) real-time, always on antivirus tools at the same time that could present a horrible problem thru conflicts, slowdowns, and incompatibilities. You should uninstall all but one of them in that case (may be flagged in the scan below).

If applicable, more than one realtime malware protection tool will/could also likely create similar major issues. You need to uninstall 'SpywareBot' as previously instructed or indicate what problems you may be having doing this.

Also, uninstall the current install for HijackThis so that we may get a proper install (still not in its own dedicated folder - Program Files\Hijackthis\HijackThis.exe) as per instructions below and to provide further diagnostics:

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your desktop.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, a text file will open - Main.txt
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of Main.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
  • An additional text file, Extra.txt, will also be available (by default) in the following FOLDER, C:\Deckard\System Scanner.
  • Please go to that FOLDER and also copy the contents of Extra.txt to your post as well.

Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

Quote:
What DSS will do:
  • Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed.
Post Logs:
  • DSS Scan Results: contents of:
    • 1) Main.txt
    • 2) Extra.txt

There still appears to be a lot of security tool duplication which is also reflected in the memory % now in use. You appear to be running two (2) SECURITY SUITES AT THE SAME TIME (NIS and Cox High Speed Internet Security Suite). Suites can be very wasteful of memory resources.

Additionally, if the 'StopSign AV' is always running and you are also running the NIS AV component, this is not good. All and any such duplications makes for a slow and unproductive PC.

Discuss with your ISP (if needed) to decide what tools you can safely use and keep.

Post a revised HijackThis LOG once done, and tell us what your current MEMORY % is now running at and whether your PC is now performing better.
