Very sick PC

Had a lot of problems with our desktop recently and over the last few days we've got it almost back up and running how it should but there are still some issues. So, came across Hijack this and these forums so wondering if anyone can help? I think even with my untrained eye theres some things on there which i dont like the look of.

Any help is much appreictaed. Were currently getting an invalid syntax error and many web pages dont work. Then ones which do work, if you try and click some links it says the security settings wont allow it.

PrevX should have picked up the following two (2) Trojans. Be careful how you respond to PrevX warnings:

Also, the following is/was a potentially very dangerous backdoor Trojan (potential to steal information and passwords):
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpcc.dll

Read over the following directions. Ask if anything appears unclear to you.

Clean out TEMPORARY FILES procedures:
To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp

Install Options:

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!
Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.

It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Do not run CCleaner until requested later.

We will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Accordingly, it is probably a good idea to print out the following directions or copy them to a text file on your desktop using NOTEPAD. Read these instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about anything.

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.

HIDDEN FILES: To make sure you can see all hidden files, please follow the directions here

SAFEMODE: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).

Delete TEMPORARY FILES: Now, use CCleaner to hunt down the most common temporary file locations and the temporary file clutter contained therein (and of possible malware hiding places):

Run CCleaner .

FIRST-TIME USE:
Select the ‘Options’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), ‘Advanced’ BUTTON, and then UNCHECK the ‘Only delete files in Windows Temp Folders older than 48 hours’.

Select the ‘Cleaner’ BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ’Windows’ TAB up front by default.

Uncheck ‘Cookies’ option (advisable)
Optionally, Uncheck ‘Recently Typed URLs’ option (potentially still useful)
Click the ‘Analyse’ button.
Thereafter, click ‘Run Cleaner’ after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.

***** Clean out the Recycle Bin for items removed below, ONLY once you have regained the full functional use of your PC.

Navigate to these files or folders using Windows Explorer (OR Start -> Search) and delete (if present):

POST A REVISED HIJACKTHIS LOG for review:

I don't see any remaining malware issues in your current HijackThis LOG.

How is the Internet failing to 'fully function'? Please be as specific as possible.

You are potentially running ACTIVE anti-spyware protection from AOL, SUPERAntiSpyware, and McAfee which may be creating conflicts. You may need to disable and/or uninstall selected real-time monitoring features or components in order to have things work right.

Hey well its my brothers desktop which is the problem, im using my laptop which is working perfectly online so i know its not any network problems or modem problems.

What he has basically said is, he can sign onto AOL and read email, but if he tries to type in an address such as myspace.com or google.com its showing as actioned cancelled or page can not be displayed. He says the odd website which was listed in his favourites does display but if he clicks on a link it fails. The AOL homepage and MSN homepage work but again not with links.

I suspect its because these favourited pages are saved locally or something but he just cant seem to connect to anything else.

Can you access the Net properly when SUPERAntiSpyware is not running (right click on the the toolbar and exit form the SAS icon). When were the following tools added, and in what order:

AOL antispyware
SUPERAntiSpyware
Prevx (suppose to coexist with all other tools) - Can you disable or uninstall for now. It completely missed two malware items that were in its database - why (user errror)?

Alternately,
Your best option may be to try a system restore point (if available) to a date before any known problems or before you started performing any recent fixes?

Click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

Check Restore my computer to an earlier date> Click Next.

Choose the date before you performed any recent fixes and click Next and Next again.

Once rebooted, please try your Internet connection
