Configuring Symantec File realtime protection

I would be grateful if anyone could assist me to configure my Symantec File real time protection. I do have it enabled but I'm not sure if it is giving me the protection which I should have set up. It's quite easy to tick the box 'Enable file system realtime protection'. It's the other options and actions which I have difficulty selecting: - Advanced, Macro virus and Non Macro virus actions, File types.programme and file extensions.

Sorry but I don't know the first thing about Symantec. I would be happy to look at a hijackthis log in case some kind of virus is causeing your problems. At the top of this page is a section that says read this first, if you scroll down the page there is a link to hijackthis, run it and copy/paste it back here.

Thank you Neal for a swift response.
I haven't any virus problems and update my Symantec AV almost daily, if updates are available. Same applies to my Ad-Aware SE Plus.

I am not sure if I was utilising it to it's full potential and I am not fully confident that I have it configured correctly.
