Windows I.O. 7 Browser Problems

Just in the last few weeks, my browser stopped letting me access my Tennessee State Work site where I access my web email. I have been going there and using it for a year now since I bought my computer. I can access it from my wife's computer and my son's laptop. I also am now having a problem on Google and other (Yahoo) search engines. When I click on the desired link, it directs me to non-related and unwanted websites (some xxx-rated).

I get this "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" when I try to access this: https://gw1.state.tn.us/servlet/webacc

I have tried all the commands and tricks suggested on the browser that says: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. I have gone to the Microsoft help website and downloaded all their recommended fixes.

I have installed all the browser hijack fixes I have read about on this forum from earlier posts.

Has anybody found a solution other than clearing my hard drive and starting over??? thanks for any help!!!

You need to produce a HijackThis LOG as per instructions here (also recommend that you run the SpyBot scan, as well):

Running two (2) real-time (always on) antivrus tools at the same time will create conflicts and incompatibility issues. You appear to be running both Norton and TrendMicro. If so, please try uninstalling one of them in 'Add/Remove Programs' (Control Panel).



Please do not use word wrap (NOTEPAD?) when posting a HijackThis LOG - it makes for a very difficult review process.

You are not running HijackThis (HJT) from a desired location. You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items – to avoid horrible clutter and/or potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.

• Create a new folder in your C: Drive.
• Name the FOLDER HijackThis (or HJT) such as C:\Program Files\HijackThis or C:\HJT and
• Move the HijackThis.exe file into the newly created FOLDER.
• Run HJT from there (and revise your shortcut accordingly).
• Please post a revised HijackThis LOG.

Let us see/review what is loaded on your PC:

• Run HijackThis and Click ‘Open the Misc Tools section’ button.
• Then click the ‘Open Uninstall Manager…’ button.
• Click the ‘Save list…’ button. Save uninstall_list to your desktop.

Thank you very much for your kind attention to my problem. I will do as you have instructed me to do and move hijack this from my "G" drive (an external harddrive connected by usb port) to a created folder on my "c" drive and then run it.

You mentioned not using "word wrap" I am sorry about doing that and will most certainly comply by unchecking word wrap.

As to the Norton and Tren Micro, the only thing Norton I have is Norton Ghost which came with this Dell computer that is not supposed to be a virus program but hard drive back-up program. The only Virus Program I installed was the Tren-Micro program. Do I need to dis-engage either of them stilll?

Before posting my own problem here, I read posts from someone with a similar problem that was directed to down load and run the following: BitDefender, Fixwareout, Spy Bot, and AD-Aware. I have downloaded and ran each. I am no longer being hi-jacked to "Redirect" from Google and Yahoo as I was but still cannot get my browser to load my State web sites that use the "us" ending as this one: https://gw1.state.tn.us

You can trace the route taken to get to 68.216.207.178 - seems to die after that - result may be normal response to a PING. Do you get similar results - post your results back here if substantially different (or in a PM). Got similar results in an alternate browser (FireFox):

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure ’Run fixit’ is checked and click Finish.

• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0 Update 1 or higher, and install it to your computer.


New Version should show as (HijackThis log):

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\… or higher
