Norton Internet Security 2008 v Free AVG

I use and recommend AVG to others mainly because a)it's free and b) it appears to cover the main anti-virus security requirements.

I am thinking of buying the Home/Student Office 2007 from Amizon, and part of the offer is to get Norton Internet Security 2008 (3 licence) kit at £14.97.

A couple of questions.
1) Any advantages over AVG
2) Is the licence renewable annually

AVG is renewable once a year and is a small but effective program.

Norton is huge and a reource hog and guaranteed to slow down your computer.

I downloaded trial versions of Norton Internet Security 2008, and Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.

Backed up my system, uninstalled AVG, installed Norton, and ran Norton.
Restored system, ran AVG, uninstalled AVG, installed Kaspersky, and ran Kaspersky.

Findings are not scientific by any means, but ...

Installation of Norton took ages. Kaspersky was acceptable - just a bit longer than AVG.

AVG scanned 163958 items found nothing.
Norton scanned 420753 and found 1 tracking cookie.
Kaspersky scanned 525163 and found 9 tracking cookies.

Norton did slow the process down a little, Kaspersky was similar to AVG.

Conclusion the machine was clean due to AVG but no spam control, Norton is very cumbersome, and Kaspersky is thorough.

Costs AVG free, Norton £14.99 3 licences 1 year, Kaspersky £41.17 3 licences 2 year.

Any thoughts on Kaspersky.
