hi all. a couple of weeks ago i posted a thread on the windows xp bit.where jephree was kind enough to tell me where i should have been posting and sent me to read what was there.problem was it looked like a foreign language to me.(i dont really do computers).so i had a look round at what other people put on posts and what you told them to do and that just freaked me out totally.i had no idea what info you would want and even where i would get it.but earlier to nite i went back to my first post to tell jephree it was all to confusing and to ask if he could direct me in the way of a site where they may be could help some one like me very slowly.anyways long story short he told me in simple terms to come here and post this thing he said to do so here i am and the thing he said to show you is Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

also just realised i have not told you why i needed help.this is my childrens pc and it is running very slowly.we have only been on internet a couple of months but they were down loading all sorts of stuff i have stopped them doing this and uninstalled some things and deleted other stuff but still pc running slowly.we did have norton but i read it was not good so i got rid of that and now have avg.free and have a a spy ware thing i got free from the google pack.sorry i am not sure what info you need. but if you can help me it would be very much appreciated thank you

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to desktop.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

If you would like to keep your cookies don't check that item

* Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
* Click the Empty Selected button.
* If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
* Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
* If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
* Click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Please Download NoLop to your desktop from the links below...

NOLOP

If you are useing firefox you may have to right click NOLOP and select "open link in new window"

First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot.

Double click NoLop.exe to run it.

Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
<<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>

When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK.

Now click the "REBOOT" Button.

A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log.

hi i ran the nolop thingy it said there was a infection and i would have to reboot.so i did that straight away.but when i looked back at your instructions i realised i was meant to wait till it had finished so i ran it again after it had rebooted and this time it said no infections. also just thought i would ask even thou i use mozilla firefox, internet explorer keeps opening up with loads of adverts.have told the kids not to click in them how ever intresting they may think they are.but is it possible to stop them .it would not be so tiresome if i used internet explorer but the fact all the adverts come from there and i dont use it is driving me bonkers. also here is the new hijack this log you wanted. thanks for all your helpLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

Now reboot into safe mode by tapping your F8 key upon restart and safe mode screen appears, select safe mode and press enter.

DELETE FILES:

hi neal.am sorry to say am a bit stuck.this is awful having to explain how hopeless i am on here.so the thing is i did all the first stuff from your last post but after rebooting in safe mode i had to go delete two files that you said would be in data application.well after searching every where i cant find a folder named that.the kids and i all have the pc set up so we have our own bits and we had a friend to stay and gave them there bit of pc for doing home work and stuff and i can find a data application folder in there bit but thats empty.i think the kids have deleted the folder i want,when they tried to tidy up all the folders cos they had been keeping there music there word documents and pics any where.so they sorted it all out in to proper places and deleted some things.so i dont no where to look for it to delete it if i do have it.any way pc does seem a bit faster to me but will have to check with kids.i rebooted a second time cos was not sure if i should come on net in safe mode. so is there another thing for me to do.have we sorted the pop up adverts out or have we just been trying to make pc go faster.(sorry i dont understand what we been doing,have just followed your instructions)hope you understand what i mean bout us all having bits of pc.am afraid i dont explain stuff well.also just wanna say thanks for all your help so far from yabs... am just adding some more its 24 hour later thought i had better let you no i found the application data folder but only the dvdoaky was there any way have deleted that. and pc does seem faster but its still slow at starting.so will there be more for me to do.and again thanks so much for your time and patience. from yabs

thanks for your help from yabs....neal have been having a read throu other posts to try and educate my self a little bit.any way i noticed that some one who had messenger live&sponser(cid) was told to remove it cos its a problem i also have this on my uninstall list should i remove it.sorry if am jumping a head before i should be.i just wondered that was all thanks from yabs..

Yes you should uninstall that as that is the cause of the infection.

That was my fault I should of asked to see an uninstall list and I didn't.

As a matter of fact let's have a look after you uninstall the above mentioned.

Like this:

Open Hijackthis.

Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.

Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.

Click the "Save list..." Button.

Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Plus a new hijackthis log. Thanks.

Also if other user accounts are present I will need to see a hijackthis log from each user account one at a time as they could be infected as well, but not untill we clean the one we are working on now.
