Help. Trojan Problems

Yesterday I got the BAT/TCPParams.A trojan and I ran the SDFix program. Here is the report (I did it twice). The first report had 3 Trojans. This is the second report. During startup, my AT&T Online Protection antivirus still detects it.
Thank you

Re: Help. Trojan Problems

I ran it through the spyware and it seemed to remove the trojans, but now I can't open the Add/Remove Hardware folder or others in the Control Panel

That sounds like a lot, except if most are very low risk COOKIES. Your higher risks of infection are likely mainly because of using tools like Bearshear, Limewire, Bitcomet, etc.

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.

You might want to printout or save the following instructions to your desktop for subsequent referral since several reboots will be required.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Download ComboFix from one of the following links below:

Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: If you already have Combofix, delete previous copy(s) and download the latest version. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet and restore connections before it completes its run. If Combofix terminates prematurely and breaks the Internet connections, they can be restored manually by rebooting the machine. Note: If you have an "always on" connection (DSL/cable), unplug the cable from the modem before running Combofix. Do not reconnect before Combofix has finished its scan.
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your:
    • anti-virus,
    • script blocking and
    • any anti-malware real-time protection
before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause unpredictable results.
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper.

Re: Help. Trojan Problems

Do you have a 'vundofix' log that you could post? There may be left over issues, there.

I am not sure what may be causing your problem with 'Add/Remove Programs'. Did this just happen with the latest round of fixes. Are you running both 'AVG Anti-Spyware Guard' and 'Spyware Doctor' at the same time in real-time?

Here are some research links which might help:

Re: Help. Trojan Problems

Use the System File Checker (SFC) :
(typical runtime is 30 minutes) - please read over all instructions before proceeding.

Sometimes when you install third party software, it may overwrite important operating system files. This can cause instability - or worse. Windows XP includes a command line tool that you can use if you think this may have happened (for example, if you get a message box warning that there is a problem with a .dll or the system just seems unstable). Here's how to use it:
  1. Click Start | Run.
  2. In the Run box, type/copy&paste:
SFC /scannow (notice the space plus slash).
  3. Windows will scan all protected Windows files to verify that they are intact and in their original versions. If they're not, corrupt, missing or incorrect files are replaced. You may be prompted to insert your Windows XP installation CD if your Dllcache folder (where Windows keeps a copy of essential system files) has become corrupt or has been deleted.

To avoid the possibility of having to dig out and insert the OS CD, you can copy the i386 folder from the installation CD to your hard disk, and just point Windows there to find the files it needs. For instructions on how to do so, and more info about scannow, see:

Re: Help. Trojan Problems

If the problems persists, I would recommend a Repair Install of XP. A backup of critical user files is HIGHLY advisable before doing so:

Quote:
You can use an OEM XP Pro or Home, "retail" XP Home or Pro full or upgrade version CD of the same version Home or Pro to perform a Repair Install. OEM Restore disks or hidden restore folders on the hard drive will not work for the Repair Install.

If the option to Repair Install is NOT available and you continue with the install; you will delete your Windows folder and the Documents and Settings folders. All applications installed that place keys in the registry will need to be re-installed and will require the original install media.

You should exit setup if the repair option is not available [unless you wish to proceed with a full re-install]
You need to proceed carefully - exactly as instructed here (take your time and double-check each step).
