help needed removing dl.exe

ok im a bit annoyed i've had to resort to coming here and registering to get help, i've always been fairly adept at removing virus and trojans etc in the past but this one has me stumped.

it happened on my media server PC, which is basically only used to store my movies and stuff, and for browsing the net occosionly and it has barely anything installed on it other then XP and the needed software for using the media server.

now i restarted it today and on login i got this dl.exe command prompt.

i saw it and quickly closed it via task manager and did what i normally do, set about removing it.

first tried to log on the net for a search to see how bad it is. but i couldn't load any websites.

so i searched for it and deleted it and then deleted it from registry and checked msconfig and checked thru my system folder for anything sus.

everything looked good so i restarted.

then it just decided to not login. it would boot but when it got time to show the windows loading screen (xp screen) it was just blank. i left it like that for about 15mins and tried again about 4 times and still nothing.

after a bit of testing i've found i can login to safemode but that is it, last known good config works as well.

i COULD probally just use a system restore point but i HATE doing that as to me its giving up and letting the virus win. i want to find out what is going on.

now that being said, i can only use safemode with networking, so i can transfer stuff from this pc (my main comp) to that via network but im not sure which programs will run in safemode for scanning purposes.

i have spybot S&D running now and will post when it is finished, and have done a HJT scan and here is the log.

Do you have an anti-virus program running? If not you need to get one now, free ones below:

Three really good and free anti-virus programs are:
(You only need one anti-virus program as two or more will cause significant problems on your computer)

Avira

Avast 4.8.1201

PC Tools

update and run a scan please, then...

* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and zLaunch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.
