Unhappy Wordpad and quicktime problem

I am trying to get a tutorial to run that my tutor has set up for me to view. it runs via quicktime and a macromedia projector. When I try to run it I get an error message showing that my Wordpad is corrupt. The programme then shuts down. I have reinstalled quicktime and tried to restore wordpad with no success if any. I dont know how to d/l a free copy of the programme or to fix it.

below is a copy of my log please help me.

Re: Wordpad and quicktime problem

You may have a corrupted XP operating system (and not even at SP2). Or, the hard drive may have also completely failed or is failing. To investigate this more fully, you need to put that hard drive into an external drive enclosure or docking caddy for use with a USB or ESATA connection, or setup as a second slaved drive on another system. Or have a local shop do that for you.

If your hard drive is SATA, your easiest option could be the following drive caddy choices ($US38-50):

Thermaltakeusa»Storage»Docking Station

Cool Re: Wordpad and quicktime problem

Hi I have managed to get it working. I unplugged everything and let the computer rest over night. I then proceeded to delete the partition and hit a few buttons and presets. I thought to myself this is as bad as it gets so I migth as well keep trying..'sighs'. I went through the bios. Took a few hours to do but managed to use the recovery disc to reinstall and recover the partition. I am not even sure how I managed to do it other than a 'sheer fluke'. I sat and went ok I give up I might as well pray. so ahem I did...I said "Come on I'm praying...please let it work."

I daren't use the cd from college for the tutorial as I dont want to end up back to square one. Im currently running anti virus just incase. I no longer have wordpad set up but installed works 2007. I wanted to say thanks for the reply. All seems stable luckily I had backed the programme files up onto cds so if needs be I can reinstall them. However, its nice to see the pc looking so clean. I realise it needs de-fragging though.

I was using Quicktime 6.0 to view the macromedia projector tutorial. it's for photoshop. we have to view them in order to proceed to the next element. I just completed my 1st formative but have a long way to go and a lot of cramming to do. 4 text books but, as I enjoy reading and knowledge I'm happy to do so.
I wanted to say thanks for taking time out to reply to my somewhat enormous HJT log. It is appreciated. I appologise for my lack of computing terminology.

Re: Wordpad and quicktime problem

Be careful that a failing hard drive might initially appear to be recoverable only to soon continue to exhibit the same ongoing problems.

If there is any doubt about your drive's health, you might be best advised to clone your existing drive to a brand new drive using a tool such as Acronis or at least always ensure you have backups for all important user files prior to a clean install on a new hard drive.

You also need to ensure that all critical security updates are current as your last reported setup showed only SP1 - you need a minimum of Service Pack 2 (SP2) on XP.

Re: Wordpad and quicktime problem

Thanks everyone for your help. I am now getting a problem when I try to running a certain "Quicktime based" CD. It keeps coming up with: "Unable to open file "D:\locRsrc\MTPrsrc.dir" because it is already open with write permission from another user"

How can this be when I'm signed in on the admin account? Any ideas? thanks again

You need to show me a current hijackthis log that reflects SP2.
