**getting this pop-up type message while using MySpace**

this is the second time this has happened, and i'm not sure if it's real, or if it's spyware doing it. i'm in the middle of using myspace, and it all of a sudden closes. a window pops up saying WARNING: you may have spyware, bla bla bla, you may lose unsaved data, something about erratic PC behavior, bla bla bla. then it asks me if i want to install a certain aintivirus 2009 program. i hit cancel both times, and a web page pops up and starts scanning my system. i suddenly close it before any type of scanning is complete.

now, i have the malware program, clamwin virus protection (if it's even any good), and spybot search and destroy all on my computer.. i do constant updates for all of these, plus i scan my comp with the windows defender thing (if that really does anything, i'm not sure).

so there. that's the story. my question is just whether or not anyone knows what i'm talking about with this window and if it's spyware, or if it's something to do with myspace, or if i actually have something wrong. both times it happened with firefox while i was using myspace. i think it's myspace, but who knows. maybe it's them trying to sell me a program.... who knows. maybe you guys/gals do??

antivirus 2009
Known malware. One of 'myspace' pages may have been compromised or it may just be a coincidence.

* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked , and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed , a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart(See Extra Note).
  • A run log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs TAB in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
  • Please post any current revised observations.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Yup, I already have the Malwarebytes Program and I have scanned my notebook repeatedly with the most current updates. It hasn't found anything time and time again.

Re: **getting this pop-up type message while using MySpace**

You need to be more specific about 'exact' error messages being received. A HijackThis LOG would also help identify such things as what tools you have been running, etc and any obvious known or suspect files.

Popups that identify 'viruses' may not have anything to do with viruses except to get your attention and sell you a useless 'solution'. 'Antivirus 2009' is a specific known piece of malware which you may or may not have encountered:

How to remove Antivirus 2009 (Uninstall Instructions)

The following scan may help identify the nature of your popup malware:

If you have difficulty running this scan disable any ‘always running’ resident active real-time protection (Antivirus, etc...) and run the scan offline; you'll re-enable them after the scan
Download Lop S&D < here
http://eric.71.mespages.googlepages.com/LopSD.exe

Double-click Lop S&D.exe
Choose the language, then choose Option 1 (Search)
Wait till the end of the scan
Post the log which is created: (%SystemDrive%\lopR.txt)
