Smile McAfee Antivirus

Been trying to delete from my programes & system won't let me. I go to programmes on Control Panel & try & uninstall & nothing much happens just McAfee template appears on screen, try again & says it is continuing programme or similar. Still in my programmes & want it removed. Any ideas anyone?

Re: McAfee Antivirus

Review and try any additional steps found here:

PC Hell: How to Uninstall McAfee

If there are still problems produce an 'uninstall list' (see below) and hijackthis log, please. If you have recently installed a new AV product that could also be causing issues against completing the McAfee uninstall:

Let us see/review what is loaded on your PC:
  • Run HijackThis and Click Open the Misc Tools section button.
  • Then click the Open Uninstall Manager… button.
  • Click the Save list… button. Save uninstall_list to your desktop.

  • Open the Uninstall list file and post in your next reply, please.

Thumbs up Re: McAfee Antivirus

Many thanks Vincent. Advice spot on as always used removal tool & bingo it's been removed! Must send you a donation as I also took the antivirus advice & installed Avast yesterday as AVG 8.5 wanted £35 from me. All working well again now many thanks & keep up the good work!

Please note that there is indeed a free version of AVG should you wish to later consider this:

AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista

I use it on my dual boot VISTA partition to become and stay familiar with it and so does Digerati (another MOD). Some have reported annoyance issues with it but I can't say that has caused any issues of concern for me.

However, many of us MODS tend to stay away from any tools that could become or are becoming bloated 'security suites'. AVG has solid anti-malware components and also includes the 'linkscanner free' module which I choose to use anyway. Anyway I choose to use NOD32 on my predominantly used XP partition.
