re: [Resolved] Vista start-up problems

So, Avast is partially uninstalled, and Avira is fully functional, correct?

Yes, but I just uninstalled Avast completely, I hope. I will post a new log right after this post.

re: [Resolved] Vista start-up problems

Well, I need some sleep. I will be back on tomorrow around six p.m. (It's roughly one A.M. at the moment). I say this because I know I've been replying hopefully quickly and don't want you to wonder why I don't respond.

By the way, whatever they pay you, if at all, it's not enough. Haha. Thanks for everything so far!

re: [Resolved] Vista start-up problems

Now, Avast is gone completely. Good
Let me know tomorrow, how the computer is doing after all these changes.
I'm getting ready for bed as well.

No money here. We're all volunteers

re: [Resolved] Vista start-up problems

Alright, it seems to have been doing better, not quite as sluggish. I'm no longer afraid that when I turn it off, it's not going to work, so I guess thats a good thing

Whoa, volunteers? That's nuts! Thanks so much then.

By the way... congrats on 1000th post.

Very well. Let's re-check your HJT log.

================================================

I strongly recommend, you unistall Uniblue RegistryBooster 2009 - worthless program, which may cause nothing else, but problems. You shouldn't be playing with the registry at all.

================================================== =========

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

When done with updating Java, click on Remove older versions button.

================================================== =======

Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista, type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista, hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter).

At Command Prompt, type in:
sc stop "SupportSoft RemoteAssist"
Hit Enter.
Wait for the service to be stopped.

Type in:
sc delete "SupportSoft RemoteAssist"
Hit Enter.
Wait for confirmation.

Close Command Prompt window.

================================================== ======

1. Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries:

- O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
- O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {7FEBEFE3-6B19-4349-98D2-FFB09D4B49CA} - (no file)
- O9 - Extra button: Qwest Live - {46B686B4-4DC5-4654-B2E9-111539E2956D} - Bing (file missing) (HKCU)

4. You may also checkmark following entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):

- O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickCare] C:\Program Files\Qwest\Quickcare\bin\sprtcmd.exe /P QuickCare
- O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
- O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

- O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [WindowsWelcomeCenter] rundll32.exe oobefldr.dll,ShowWelcomeCenter (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')

5. Click on Fix checked button.

6. Restart computer.

7. Post new HijackThis log.

Sorry for the delayed post. as well, a few of the things you said to fix weren't there when I rescanned. Maybe I closed them by accident.

re: [Resolved] Vista start-up problems

It looks good...

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

Alright, I ran all that and it cleared 1190.-- MB of stuff, lol. It is kinda faster now, of course that's to be expected with 1.2GB less memory, but not quite where I remember it being. Any other suggestions?
