Two problems:PC crashed during update installation & has become slower; pop-up issues

Hello,

Windows Update downloaded some updates and I proceeded to install them. Unfortunately the power went out and my laptop shut down in the middle of the installation process. I switched it on later and a message popped up saying I had to uninstall what had been installed and re-install it again because my PC was in critical condition or something.

I did what it said, and I've been experiencing problems with it since then. Sometimes it freezes during start-up, at the blue screen where it says "Welcome". It keeps detecting new hardware. I have no idea what this hardware is, it's called "Compal E-POWER Driver". When I try to install it, it says "The file hkdrv.sys on (Unknown) is needed". It shows this location in the "Copy files from" field below: "c:\docume~1\owner\locals~1\temp\{0681df3e-ad53-477c-b1f6-3103b64e3738}". I have no choice but to cancel the installation. There is also an Easy Button or something that automatically runs at start-up, but now an error message appears saying some file couldn't be found. What should I do about the missing files on my PC? How do I fix this problem?

My second problem is that my PC has been infected by a bug that keeps opening several IE windows when I open my browser. The pages open up websites like "540.filost". It's really frustrating.

I've never used HijackThis before, so I don't know if this is what I'm supposed to being posting here:

Hello,

Thanks for the reply! I'm sorry mine is late; I assumed ealier that no one was going to help me here because there was no reply :P

Well, I'd got rid of the pop-up problem myself before your reply by searching the internet for info and using HijackThis! The pop-ups have gone and my PC doesn't crash anymore, but now my IE browser keeps crashing. Most of the time when I open it up, the "Program is not responding" error report thing pops up. I always click on Don't Send. Once I sent the error report and it said there were add-ons on my browser.

I did everything you said. The only issue was that AVG keeps popping up a warning about some Download.Agent.J file. I tell it to clean and quarantine it, but then a window pops up called "Error while quarantining" saying there was an error making a backup of this file: c:windows\system32/win.dll, and "do you want to remove it anyway?" This occurs repeatedly, and the files collect in the quarantine section of the Infections tab when I select "Yes". Even when I select "Remove finally" they just keep coming back.

Here's the scan report and HijackThis log:

imported_Neal Is a beginner here at D-A-L
That should help some.

1. Download this file - COMBOFIX
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Post a new hijackthis log also please.
