Everything opens in Wordpad ????

Hello,I am running Windows Vista Business,and downloaded some stuff from Ares and Limewire. I have an antivirus and Windows Defender. My problem is I can't open up hardly any of my applications or exe files. I go to set my applications and there isn;t an exe extension on the list to associate the files with. So when I try to open up any programs they are all opening up with wordpad instead. Is this a registry problem or a virus. Thanks Trinkkette

Try a system restore to a point prior to your problem.
