[Resolved] Vista Issues, Virus, Malware ????

Hi

I really hope someone can please help me. I am trying to help my best mate who has a acer laptop and has recently downloaded Personal AV and on her defence she unlike myself didn't know it was a virus. Well I use XP and am not on the up with Vista and I know one thing I hate it as its more confusing then anything else. I stopped the program from accessing her system by denying it access but could not delete it at the time until i had loaded programs and as she can not go on Internet I uploaded Super Spy-ware and Malware bytes these could update but I can not get her internet explorer to work at all.

I have ran both programs in safe mode which picked up the personal AV and deleted it but Wdws Defender also found a Trojan:win32/yektel.A which says it has been removed successfully and I have no idea what this is. I'm also annoyed as she has Norton security which never picked it up either of these threats.

So I decided to change her to XP original Home edition and change her Anti virus to Avira and firewall to Comodo and get her a refund for Norton and remove this. However when I put the XP disc in I changed her boot sequence so I could boot from the beginning and it loaded as normal so I chose the first option to format the drive and install XP and it is saying that her Hard drives are not there, but of course they are as I can go on to her Vista desk top as I am now. I also noticed that her hard drive has been split in two not by her but I'm guessing by her installing Vista or another unknown source. It confusing me big time on why it won't let me change it to XP is it because vista is newer? I also found out from her that the laptop originally came with a trial version of vista which she then got a copy from a friend of hers I don't know and it was not a original copy but on a normal cd type disk so I am guessing it may of been a downloaded version. This is not her fault as she did not know. My concern also is that there is an issue with missing hard drive space it is over 20GB and she does not download a lot only from ITunes and a few trial games it equals about 4GB at the most. I checked all the one hard drive to see and can't find it.

I would like her laptop to go to XP so I can help in future if any probs go wrong I find its easier to deal with and don't have vista experience, but how can i do this if the hard drive when running XP disc says its missing? So I tried doing it from the desktop of Vista and it says their is an issue with compatibility and its blocked the program and to go on line for a solution and I just can't get her connected to the internet either (this happened when this Personal Av had loaded) and I am unsure if I should let her lap top access my wireless in case it is some virus or Trojan and it effects the ones on my network, as my Knowledge is not as good on these matters I know more then some but less then others so to speak I'm no expert at all. We want vista gone all files are backed up and we just want it gone.

I do apologise this post is long but wanted to get as much information down as possible. She can't afford a professional expert either as she is low on cash at the moment. I just want to help her so any help will be most grateful. I have uploaded logs that I got from her machine using hijack this and my personal USB drive.

Please if anyone could help I'd be most grateful. I did try reading other peoples posts with this virus issue but it just did not help me as the virus is gone but the machine is no better. Thanks for any help offered.

Jodie

PS - not sure if you needed her system info also. Also I had to take out letters from Hijack report as your forum says I can not post links when I'm not doing so intentionally.

re: [Resolved] Vista Issues, Virus, Malware ????

Solved the drive issue by restoring vista at last no longer shows missing drive space. XP seems to be a no go due to Acer settings to Vista only and to change it will be too much hassle and could wreck the lap-top not worth the risk. Have internet to try yet but as of now all seems ok. So may not need any help at all will post again soon if I do. to me.
