Here is an interesting one… a while back I posted some information on DAL about my site. This is now showing higher in a google search than my site!
Can I remove it from DAL? Or get my site higher up the list?
It's very common and you don't need to do anything about this for now. Google basically treats older sites with more trust and authority because they've been around longer and they have some background on them. Your site is new and therefore is held back by Google until over time it builds a picture of what the site is, what it does, who uses it etc etc
Continue to build a quality website, market the site and you will see soon enough that your site starts ranking correctly.
ah ok thanks- although i think it will be a while before we are more popular than DAL...! i assume thats with use of bots and crawlers etc, rather than a manual process!!?
It's not that you need to be more popular than D-A-L, you just need to be established. There is no reason why you shouldn't rank higher than D-A-L for the name of your own site in a matter of weeks, you just need to promote the site and build some good link relationships with on-topic sites.
Of course you would need to be more popular then D-A-L to rank higher than us for say "computer help" though...
Down to which keywords you target. Optimising your site to rank well in the search engines includes knowing which keywords you are targeting. You should have a good idea of this before you attempt to optimise your site to rank well for those terms.
