Question cpu fan stops

I was given a Prostar laptop with Windows 2000 on it. When you turn it on, as soon as Windows starts to boot the cpu fan stops. It runs thru the bios but thats all. Of couse it shuts itself off in a few minutes because of heat. Any know anything that it might be.

Re: cpu fan stops

What is the Pro-Star model? You might try searching their very comprehensive web site and or contacting them:

http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?mainpage=support

It would be worth a test to see if this is in any way a Windows issue by going into the BIOS settings (Press “F2” while booting the computer) to see what happens. i.e. Does the fan always stop after X mins. or only if Windows tries to boot?

The model is 3100c. You have to press control alt s to get to the bios. The fan keeps running fine when your in the setup screen, only stops in windows.

Unhappy Re: cpu fan stops

I think I found my problem, I need to flash my bios to a newer version, because win 2000 don't reconise the fan control. But I'm having problems finding a newer version to flash. My bios is Systemsoft Plug & Play 1.17.01. Prostar doesn't carry it anymore.

Re: cpu fan stops

Found a BIOS here:

http://www.pro-star.net/driver-downloads.htm#3100

Other drivers here:

http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?ma...archive=1#3500

Do not see anything Re: Systemsoft

Is there a BIOS setting to disable the fan control?
