Question partition dedicated to win 2000.

i was wondering how much space win. 2000 needs to run comfortably. i planned on doing a dual boot type thing put i wanted to put win 2000 on its own partition, with no additional files. and i don't want the minium install size, but more how much it would like to have to run the most efficently.

thanks

Re: partition dedicated to win 2000.

After about a year of heavy use and lots of updates (service pack 4, hotfixes, etc), my WINNT (Windows) directory has stacked up to 1,120Mb. Added to that the fact that Windows likes to set the page file at 2 point something times the amount of RAM in the PC and you end up looking at about 2.5Gb for a system running 512Mb system memory.

I've been setting up a lot of dual-boot Windows 2000 systems recently and, allowing for a few reasonable-sized applications (e.g. Office 2000) but nothing extreme, I personally like to set my partitions to 5Gb.

Other factors to consider are the size of the hard drive to be partitioned and what the OS you intend to dual boot with, whether you intend this to be the primary boot O/S.

5 Gb as suggested by DJNafey should be more than adequate for a secondary boot O/S but would consider more for the primary boot
