Graphics card problem

Hi, new to this site...and i have a problem!!

I'm currently upgarding my pc. I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo P, 2.80Ghz processor, now 2.5GB ram.

My current graphics card is a Radeon Sapphiere x1550. Trying to install a RAdeon HD 4350.

Right, to the problem...

When i first tried to install the 4350 i was running Win XP. Put the card in the PCI E slot, switched on, an the PC started up, got as far as the windows loading screen, with the XP logo and the progress bar. The progress bar stopped, and nothing else happened, it just stuck and wouldn't go any further.

Tried a few times. Smae thing.

Put my old card back in, and it worked fine.

Have now installed Windows 7. Tried the same thing, and exactly the same thing happened again.

Have tried completely unistalling the current card, still the same thing.

Tried running the Win 7 disc and repairing windows, that just stuck as well.

Have no idea what else to try. Have heard that i maybe need to disable onboard graphics, but don't know how to do that.

I assume its some sort of software conflict, as everything else works fine, and it let me start up in safe mode.

Anyone know what i can do??? Please!!

Re: Graphics card problem

If your old card works there should be no issues with an on-board graphics conflict.

With the new card can you get into Safe Mode?

Also that new cards requires at least a 300Watt PSU. Do you have that? There should be a label on the side of the PSU unit.

According to this it should be 350Watt:

Of course there is always a chance that you received a bad card which you can RMA.

Re: Graphics card problem

Did you install the drivers for the new or for the old card? Did you install windows 7 or vista drivers or did you install XP drivers? The drivers must be for the new card & the drivers must either be for Vista or 7 (windows 7 32-bit/64-bit).

Re: Graphics card problem

See if you can load the drivers in Safe Mode. Find your model here:

Graphics Drivers & Software

You need to uninstall your current driver first from Control Panel > Programs and features > ATI

You should also create a System Restore point prior to the uninstall so you can go back if the new drivers won't load.

Also if you have another computer that you can test this card in that would be a good test. If it fails in two computers you probably received a defective card.

Thumbs up Re: Graphics card problem

Thanks for the replys,

took it to computer shop yesterday, and they checked it all. They reckon its a conflict between motherboard and graphics card, with it being a HD card.

Thanks anyway guys
