Windows 7 error messages

Hi

I have Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I like it except for the annoying error message on start up. The pc does not start up cleanly either freezing at the Welcome screen, or at "Windows is starting up" or even giving a message to say it needed to repair itself. In the events log I get Error id 41 and id 11. I have just had a new psu, and in the last 6 months a new motherboard and h/d. I have installed AVG virus scanner for Windows 7 and wondering whether that was the issue uninstalled and put Avast on but no change and am back with AVG. Can anyone help me please. The problem is intermittent as one day it booted up correctly. My "guru" is completely flummoxed but has checked out all the internal items which seem to be working correctly.

I am interested to know what OS you were running before installing Windows7. Did you or "your guru" run the Windows Update Advisor before attempting to install Window 7? Is your system new, is it under warranty? Please give us more details so we can assist further.

Thanks for coming back to me - I was running XP previously and I did a complete re-install having formatted my hard drive. I had previously done a check and my system was fine for installing 7. No the system is out of warranty - it was a self-build anyway and I had been running it for about 3 years with little problem. As I mentioned I had a new motherboard and psu in the last 6 months but they have all been fitted correctly so I don't think there is a problem there. Today I got the worst message yet , it didn't get beyond the Windows is starting screen, then went to try and repair and after several minutes said it couldn't repair. It gave further options and one was system restore, so with trepidation I tried that and it worked (so far). Event Viewer still says it is error 41. Is all that any help?

I am doing other research for you, (into my sleeping time here) however in the meantime your problem maybe dust. Clean out your dust bunnies could be a start to make sure it is not an over heating problem.

Alternatively your machine may have a hardware problem. Software troubleshooting is unfortunately pointless until the underlying hardware-level defect is resolved. It may be an outright broken bit of componentry, or it could be insufficient cooling due to dust build up or the fan being blocked by placement.

After you see to the above suggestion, please post back with the results.

Glad the system restore worked for now, but we need to investigate further to find the first cause of your issue. A little research shows me that error 11 is as follows:

Does Event Viewer show an error immediately after boot would be good to know.

I thoroughly cleaned my pc with compressed air just prior to installing 7 but can have another go

With regards errors I have taken screen grabs of the Event Log in case it helps

My experience with Event Viewer is to double click on the error message which will bring up the exact error for you/us to research from that point. Those attachments are not allot of help due to the abundance of errors you are showing so I would suggest the following:

1, Contact Microsoft direct with your problem (You need a Microsoft Passport to do this)

2. Run the D-A-L hardware scan from here. Let us know the result

3. Download and run Windows Diagnostic and Recovery tool

As far as I can find in my research there does not seem to be error 41 assistance for Windows 7.

One more thought - you could download and run DevDiag.exe by ipshortstuff. It will show a result in Notepad which you may like to post here for review.

Hi everyone

Thank you all for your help

I think my problem has now been solved but as I have been without my PC for so long I haven't been able to keep you all updated. It was finally found that the problem was due to a faulty memory! Every bit of my pc has been tested and fortunately the memory was under warranty so i got a freebee replacement. Unfortunately it has cost me money because b

eing just me and my pc I have not had spare parts to install as replacements to test for errors so I have had to ask for what will no doubt have been expensive help! Intermittent faults are always a problem and of course take time. However I am please to be back on line this afternoon and am gradually getting programs re-loaded.
