windows 98 system restore?

Hi first time on this site.
I have been trying to perform a system restore on a compaq pIII that has windows 98 on it. I had to do this on windows ex but the process is not the same/ can this be done. the internet explorer goes to an error when ever I try to do much of anything.
any help would be appreciated
it is on a wireless cable roadrunner

Unfortunately 98 doesn't have that feature, are you having problems?

yes, especially with the internet explorer 5.5. it shows an error when I try to navigate different web pages? I have tried to repair it with no luck can the compaq recovery disk help? when i use that it will back up about 18% than show an error as well. thanks

Please download and run the following :

1) SpyBot Search and Destroy
After installing SpyBot Search & Destroy, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', have SpyBot remove all the items it marks in red.

2) Ad-Aware
After installing Ad-Aware, and before running the program, first press “check for updates now".
Click "Connect" and install all updated components available. Click 'Finish'.
Press "Scan Now", then 'next', and let Ad-Aware scan your drives.
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Click 'Next' again.
Check all found items, and click 'next' once more.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Always reboot the computer between each program - both of these may find things that they need to have a reboot of the machine to clear - please reboot and let them finish.

Please post a HijackThis log to the forum.

Launch HijackThis, then press Scan, and press Save Log.

This will generate a text file that will list all running processes, all applications that are loaded automatically when you start Windows, and more.

Open that file.
Go to Edit | Select all
Now click Edit | copy to copy it.

Do not change anything just yet.
Come back to the forum, Right Click and paste its contents here.

thanks for all the suggestions I am printing them out and attemting to apply unfortunatly the connection to roadrunner is wireless and sometimes not good .Iwill try to connect the comp directly with a hard wire. my helper is out of town so this might take a few days thanks again tessie
