Question PCRE.DLL File Missing

Hi, my dad has a computer which is a Compaq Pesario. When he turns on the computer he gets an error message that says " PCRE.DLL file Missing" We were just wondering what it is and what he can do to recover it? He also has a Floppy disk problem, when he puts in a disk it says he needs o format it. He formats the disk and then it says that an error occured and that the device is not ready. Could the floppy disk drive be bad? If anyone could help we would greatly appreciate it.

Re: PCRE.DLL File Missing

WinTasks DLL Library
pcre - pcre.dll - DLL Information

DLL File: pcre or pcre.dll
DLL Name: Perl-compatible regular-expression library

Description: File that contains a set of functions that implement regular expression pattern matching using the same syntax and semantics as Perl 5. The file has its own native API, as well as a set of wrapper functions that correspond to the POSIX regular expression API.
Part Of: Perl
System DLL: No

Common Errors: File Not Found, Missing File, Exception Errors

Does that mean anything to you? I've heard of Perl but I don't know what it is.

With regard to the floppy drive problem, is this a PC that he has just got or had a while? Has he used the floppy drive successfully before?

Is it a disk that is being used for the first time? Do old disks still work? My experience over the past year has indicated that new floppy disks are rubbish! I've had batches where half the box wouldn't work and had to be thrown away!

Re: PCRE.DLL File Missing

Hi, I am not familiar with this file. I tried to copy the file from my computer but it would not work on my dads. As for the floppy drive, this is a computer he recently bought, no disk that we try will work. Any disk that we put in it says : Device is not ready". We figure that it was tore up when he bought it. If you know of anything that we can try to fix it please let me know. Thanks

Re: PCRE.DLL File Missing

Did the PC come with a Restore CD that you can run to put all of the original files back on? It should do if it was a new PC. Bear in mind that, if you run that, you'll have to back up any files you've created ..... which might be difficult without a floppy drive.

Sounds like the floppy drive is suffering from one of the following:
Internal power plug disconnected;
Internal IDE ribbon cable disconnected;
Internal IDE ribbon cable round the wrong way.

If the PC is new and has a hardware fault and a software fault already, I'd send it back under warranty and get another one that works.

Re: PCRE.DLL File Missing

This is a new but used computer that he just bought. The flopy drive seems to be working properly but we can't seem to get the computer to regconize it or something. If you unplug it from the computer and then plug it back up it still says that the device is not ready. In the device manager it shows no conflicts and that it is working properly. The light on it doesn't seem to go off though. It stays on the etire time that you have the computer on.Now he has the same problem on his other computer. He took the floppy drive out of his other computer hoping to fix the other one and now both of them are saying " Device isn't ready. Before he took the other one out it worked fine but now it too has the same problem. I need help with this really bad before he throws both of the computers away.

Re: PCRE.DLL File Missing

I just saw this other thread on your problem, I mean this one here, as opposed to the other one

there

almost mirrors forgive my humor

as to the light issue look over these:

google

It's a bit confusing about the two computers and two drives?

Could you say like originally there was:
Comp 1 Drive 1
Comp 2 Drive 2

& then you did what?

Comp 2 Drive 1 ? etc. does this make sence?

Changing cables: are you sure they are situated right? Try reversing?

Anyway browse the google search as to the light issue. Maybe that will shed some

Re: PCRE.DLL File Missing

This is definitely a case of the IDE ribbon cables being round the wrong way. There are 2 things that most of us normally get wrong:

1. The cables normally have an end that is cut into strips (don't know why). This end must go in the floppy drive. Use the connector that is closest to that end of the cable - if it's a long cable with lots of connectors, don't be tempted to use one of the connectors in the middle.

2. IDE cables all have a side which is coloured red on the edge. This side must face the power connector on the floppy drive. As a general rule of thumb, the red stripe should also point towards the centre of the motherboard when you connect it at that end (some cables come with a little lug on one side so that they only fit one way round).

Re: PCRE.DLL File Missing

Thanks for your help with the floppy drive problem. I checked the cables and they were right so I purchased a new floppy drive and now it works great. My dad and I finally got one of the computers fixed. We finally upgraded it to windows 98 SE and it works great thanks to everyones help. On, the other computer we still have alot of work to do. Now that the floppy drive in it is fixed we still have missing files. I can't get it to go online because it is missing a MSIMG32.DLL File. I went to the site you told me about and downloaded both files onto a floppy disk but what do I do next?

Oh OK - I suppose a completely broken drive could well have the same symptoms! Glad it's fixed
