Screen Resolution Problem

Hi everyone, i was wondering if you can help me. I have and old Compaq presario 5456, and I just restored my computer's original settings from cd rom, everything went fine. Except that the resolution on the monitor (which is not a compaq, its a GateWay 2000 vivitron 1572) is stuck on 640X480, the bar in the control panel isn't "greyed out" it just wont slide at all. When i first got this computer setup about 6 months ago it was the same thing, but through luck from downloading drivers here and there to play different video formats and what not, i was able to change the resolution, so i know its possible. I just don't know how i did it. any ideas?

Re: Screen Resolution Problem

have you loaded drivers for the video card or chip set?

do you know what card or set you have?

also:

What color depth and what refresh rate are you using? Try playing with
them to make sure you're not bumping up against some limitation
of the video chipset.
