Tower

Cannot switch tower on my son's Windows 98 computer, what can be the problem?

Could you elaborate a bit more on this? Do you mean that you can't power up the tower (apply power)?

If so, start with the wall outlet things are plugged into. Ensure that there is adequate voltage etc, then work your way towards the machine. Check the female end of the power cord for voltage. If present, check the power supply. (Inexpensive power supply testers can be purchased ($15.00? US) at larger computer stores.) If the power supply itself is OK, check the connector delivering that power to the motherboard, and the front panel power switch. (If it's an old AT based system. (You have to turn off power to an AT machine, whereas an ATX machine powers down by itself.)) If the wiring to the switch is OK, the switch itself could be bad. If the machine is an ATX machine, the front panel switch is low voltage. (Two small/fine wires as opposed to four larger high voltage wires (plus a ground wire to the metal case frame) on an AT based machine.)
