imaging boot partition to partition on other drive

I am running ME on a P4, 1300 with two 60 GB hard drives, each with three 20 GB partitions. I would like to image the boot partition to the third partition on the other drive (in case of emergencies). I could probably clone the boot partition (C) to the H partition, but I'm not sure if having a copy (as opposed to an image) of the boot partition on the same computer might not confuse the poor thing.
I purchased DriveClone by FarStone, only to find that the maximum image size it will create is 2 GB, and there does not seem to be a way to get it to automatically span the image to a series of files. I tried e-mailing FarStone support, but never got any answers.
The latest version of Ghost does not support ME.
Are there any other program now on the market which will image a 20GB partition, or (as a last resort) is it safe to copy the boot partition to another drive on the same computer and run it with both drives connected?

If it dont fit...force it. If ya cant force it...get a bigger hammer. If it breaks...it probably needed replacing anyway.

Re: imaging boot partition to partition on other drive

The 2GB limit is imposed by the operating system you are using, it's not DriveClone's fault. You will come up against this limit whatever application you use. However, as you rightly point out, the answer is to have an application which can create two or more 'linked' image files. One I use is called 'TrueImage' by Acronis. The other leading two, Norton Ghost and PowerQuest Drive Image should also be able to do this.

Re: imaging boot partition to partition on other drive

The problem is that Ghost 2005 does not support ME. I did find a copy of Drive Image in a store, but it is now carried by Symantec and the version I found does not support ME either. The box indicated that there is another version of Drive Image which does support ME, but the local store don't seem to be able to get it, and I don't like buying on line. I may be "old-fashuioned" but I still feel that the data transport is not as secure as it should be.

Even if the OS is the reason that the file size is limited to 2GB, FarStone support should have replied to my e-mail to state this.

I'll ty to find True Image.

Thanks for the replies...
