System Restore - restore points

System Restore on my computer does not automatically set daily 'restore points'. To get around this I am now setting a restore point once each day myself. Does anyone know what I should do to rectify this problem please?

On my XP system I get a restore point (system checkpoint) every other day.

Or upon software downloads.

If you run Spybot & choose to clean the negligible objects it will create a restore point.

Otherwise I don't think it is a "problem".

If you want daily points then I think you are doing what you need to.

Thank you for your prompt reply. From the frequency of its occurence a 'daily' restore point appeared to me to be a feature of W-Me. I have recently been hit by a virus viz. Java/ByteVerify which I am told is embedded in Windows Virtual Machine and is 'uncleanable' short of reformatting my Hard Drive. Does this anomaly with System Restore have any connection with this problem?

As far as I know System Restore will create a point about every 48 hrs. if not otherwise prompted.

As to Java/ByteVerify:

I would remove MS Virtual Machine & install Java:

I have installed Java as you suggested. Please can you tell me how to remove MS Virtual Machine. Is that not part of Windows?

Sorry I am not familiar with ME in particular but in XP there is an option via Add/ Remove programs to

Set Program Access & Defaults

Here there is the choice of Sun Java or Microsoft JVM

Although I am also informed that since XP's SP1 that the Microsoft JVM was disabled. (this was due to their lawsuit with Sun Microsystems).

The installation of Sun Java was probably all you really needed to do.

There is a published registry edit to remove Microsoft JVM.

If you are comfortable editing your registry & would like it let us know.
