CD Recognition

I now have WinMe as an OS(thanks to dan)....I just installed an IDE 5224 cd burner. (52x24x52) from Top G(Top Glory Electronics....Dong Guan Co., Ltd). I have installed LG software...Adaptec ECDC 4.03C.S12/Direct CD 3.03C.s12.(EasyCD Creator) When I try to burn a CD I get "There are no CD recorders available. Ensure that your CD recorder is powered on and all cables are connected. You may also need to update EasyCD creator to recognize your recorder." I checked all my connections and they're ok. I cannot find an update at what they are calling "an update site." My software is from 2001 and my cd burner was made in 2004. Egads!!! Is there a way out? I am sending a Belarc Report for your contemplation. Thanks. Stevo

Re: CD Recognition

Although Belarc identifies the drive as CDWRITER, open Device Manager and look at the PROPERTIES for the device.
Is it identified as a CD-R/CD-RW?
Is there an option to check for allowing WRITING with this device?

That's an old motherboard in that machine, which may, or may not, be of concern. (Still researching at this point.)

Also, you could try this; CD Burn Software & DVD Burner Software - Donwload

Post back with your answers, results, and any further questions.

Re: CD Recognition

The Motherboard will only support 256mb of RAM. Is it worth investing in a later board? Will I have to replace the hard drive? Stevo.

Re: CD Recognition

You didn't answer all the posed questions.

Quote:
Is it worth investing in a later board?
Yes. If you find a used mobo, if it doesn't come with a CPU and RAM, ensure your existing will be compatable so you can install them.

Will I have to replace the hard drive?
No.
