Thanks Robert M. I don't know why I didn't think of the BIOS - I've previously written a tutorial about it as I thought it was such a common problem! http://www.d-a-l.com/missing-drive.php
I have a gateway computer it keeps saying : Drive not ready insert BOOT diskette in A: press any key when ready. What is a BOOT diskette and where does it go in the computer? Please HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A "boot diskette" is a floppy disk used to start the PC. You'll need a blank floppy disk to create one - then go into Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and choose the 'Startup Disk' option. Files necessary to start the PC up will be copied to the disk. Then, restart the PC with the floppy disk inserted.
In future, please start a new message thread when posting a new problem. It is bad forum etiquette to add a new problem onto the end of an old thread as this causes everyone who posted in this thread (which is 2 years old now) to receive an email advising that there is an update to the topic ...... which there isn't as your problem is different.
I am now closing this thread.
