Vista - to upgrade or not?

Where Is All The Vista Software?

Just 104 software applications have been certified to run
under Windows Vista, according to an update published on
Microsoft's Web site.

I used it to test the five PCs in my office. Only one was hardware compliant and none were fully software compliant.

Sure I could upgrade the hardware on the four non-compliant PCs. However, all are over two years old and in need of replacement not upgrading so why waste the money?

And yes I could remove the non compliant software and substitute other programs. But the software I use is carefully chosen so why would I deliberately choose to replace it with something inferior? The more so when you consider that the software vendors will almost certainly release Vista compatible versions in the coming months.

This reasoning that applies to my computers will also apply to most users. For most users, Windows Vista should not be seen as an upgrade option but rather a new computer option. The next computer you buy will come with Vista, it will have hardware designed for Vista and software that works with it. By then most of your current application software will have been updated to work with Vista as well.

Hello,

I just had my defective computer replaced by Dell. The new computer came with Vista Ultimate. So I've been using Vista since Monday. I had no previous knowledge of Vista so I have been learning on the fly.

Visually it is pretty nice. The only problem I've had with compatibility is with my Canon 8500 printer. I got a notice that there was a problem with it and I downloaded a new driver. It seems to be working okay now. I've installed Windows Office 2003, Photoshop Elements 5 and Palm Desktop without incident. I'm using the new Windows Mail and it is okay. Although it takes a little getting used to. I'm not sure if it is any better than OE. It does have a good spam blocker and phising blocker.

Today, I've been reading about the many features of Vista so that I will understand it better. I learned about of lots of new features. Many are helpful like the fax and scan feature. Some are things I would not use like the Digital Photo management area.

I was worried when I realized the new computer was coming with Vista, but now I would miss it if it were gone.

Hmm, if your planning to upgrade to windows vista
I do not recommend you

First of all, it is not worthy do buy a 200 - 400 dollars of a product. I rather wait long enough to buy a new computer which comes with it.

Second, there might be many incompability and problems after the upgrade, some systems files might get lost and some progrmas might not work, and all the great feathures that you see on the commercials, flyers, etc will not actually be there.

Vista is actually not bad, but vista runs the best when it is already installed in a new built computer, then you don't need to worry about anything but enjoy the new OS.

I am running vista, admittedly on a newly built computer.

I have however installed and run all the programs from my old one with no problems.

As stated, you can run the check program to see if your hardware & drivers are ok.

I find it a joy to use.
