Windows Live Messenger

Hi

I don't know if I'm in the right place but I'm hoping someone can help. I've been using Windows Live Messenger for ages and all of a sudden when I load it up and start to type it says

"Windows messenger has stopped working. A problem caused this program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify if a solution is available."

It then closes the program automatically. I'm using Windows Vista and have tried searching for any relevant fixes but have so far been unsuccessful.

Any suggestions?
