Screen Resolution Problem

I have a HP w17e Widescreen CD monitor and an Intel 82945G Express Chipset Graphics Card.
The monitor has a native resolution of 1440x900 and I've been using that resolution for a few months already(It's a new computer).
Just yesterday, I installed the Sony "Picture Motion Browser" for Handycam and Ubuntu Gusty Gibbon 7.10

When I booted back into windows, the system was in 1280x768 and 1440x900 is not available. Now I'm running in 1600x900 but I prefer to use the native resolution. Also, If I open the monitor menu, it says "Running in 1440x900"

Any help would be seful.

Re: Screen Resolution Problem

I've tried both, none of the worked.
I've even used Full-Screen games to force the resolution change.
Oh yes, I have TweakVI installed, would that do anything?

Re: Screen Resolution Problem

Any third party program has the possibility of altering these settings.

Most Full Screen games have their own Options for resolution.

Wide screen monitors are also affected by Ratio.

Again this should be in a programs settings / options.

Certain ratios preempt certain resolutions.

Re: Screen Resolution Problem

Apparently it doesn't realize my monitor is 16:10 and in the display settings it shows up as "Generic Non-PnP Monitor"

Re: Screen Resolution Problem

I would right click that entry and choose Uninstall then reboot.

If the uninstall blacks out the screen just restart from the power button.

This will see if Vista will re-recognize the proper device.

Your specific monitor should be listed there.

Re: Screen Resolution Problem

Have you got the new drivers for Vista or are you using XP drivers in compatibility mode?

I've done that to both the monitor and display driver multiple times already.

@seywar= I think they are Vista drivers as I got them from the computer's website.

Also, when installing Ubuntu:
It recognizes my monitor as 1440x900 but displays a squashed image with black bars so I altered the settings to make it full. Does that affect windows?
I've tried using an emulator (ZSNES) to force the resolution change but an error appeared "Cannot change resolution, please make sure your graphics adapter supports that resolution
