Starting KService.exe, and 4od problems, anyone else? Thought so.

Hi all,

many people seem to have been having this problem with the Channel 4 application 4od. Basically it doesn't work for many people because the file KService.exe needs to be started by going to "Run" and typing "Services.msc".

This should make the application work. The problem is when I try to actually start the file, I get an error message.

The Channel 4 website gives a solution to that problem on the following website: Channel 4: Help & Support

But the solution doesn't work for me. I'm out of ideas.

Some help would be appreciated

Your link is for XP and you are using Vista.

What is your verbatim error message?

Vista has very specific permissions required for administrative actions.

One suggestion:

When you run services.msc, right click the file and use 'run as administrator'.

Even though your account is an admin level one, you are not running with elevated privileges.

The error message i get is

"Windows could not start the KService service on Local Computer.

Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error"

In services.msc there's no option to run as administrator all I can do is "start" the service and I get the error message

Re: Starting KService.exe, and 4od problems, anyone else? Thought so.

I had the same problem. In my case it was caused by ZoneAlarm (and also user error). I had set the permissions to disallow Kservice.exe (called Delivery Management Server) from acting as a server. It needs to at least be allowed to act as a server in the Trusted zone before it will start.
This was not immediately obvious because the program did not show up properly in ZoneAlarm's program list. I had to manually add it it to the list by:
1) Open ZoneAlarm
2) Choose the Program Control tab
3) Click Add at the bottom-right of the page
4) Browse to C:\Program Files\Kontiki and choose kservice.exe. The Delivery Management Server should now show in the program list.
5) Click on the symbol under Server Trusted and select Allow.
6) If you also want to download content, click on the symbol under Access Internet and select Allow.

Hope this works for you.

I'm having the same problem, I don't have ZoneAlarm installed though.

I just can't get KService to start.

Smile Re: Starting KService.exe, and 4od problems, anyone else? Thought so.

Had The Similar Problem

When Installing 4OD I had the error with vbscript and jscript
these were resolved by registering the dll's
as an administrator
However I still had the problem when booting up my PC Deivery Manager Service would
Stop. And No matter How Many Times I tried to restart KService in administrative Tools
I Still Got The Same Error
However i Resolved this By Switching of My Internet Security then restarting Kservice under Administartive Tools/Computer Management the process started straight away

I rebooted my PC I Had No windows prompts telling me Delivery Manager service had stopped
I then Connected to the internet Started my Security and clicked on 4OD and it worked.

Hope This Helps Anyone with Similar Problems

Cheers
