Re: compaq connections.exe

Is this a new problem?

One solution is:

Download Autoruns from Microsoft:

AutoRuns for Windows

Look for the startup entry: Compaq Connections

Uncheck it and it should stop appearing.

But also note the possibility of an infection:

Quote:
The process Compaq Connections or HP Connections belongs to the software Acoustica Effects Pack or Compaq Connections.exe or RunnerEXE Application or Roll or Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook or Adobe Photoshop CS or HP Connections or SmartSound Quicktracks Plugin by Hewlett-Packard (HP United States - Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers & more) or Hewlett Packard.

Description: Compaq Connections.exe is located in a subfolder of "C:\Program Files". Known file sizes on Windows XP are 36903 bytes (39% of all occurrence), 45056 bytes, 16423 bytes, 34520 bytes.
The file is not a Windows system file. The application starts upon Windows startup (see Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders). The program has no visible window. The application listens for or sends data on open ports to LAN or Internet. There is no description of the program. Therefore the technical security rating is 69% dangerous, however also read the users reviews.

Important: Some malware camouflage themselves as Compaq Connections.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder.
