Re: How to Get Max Performance

Hmm...
This is how I upgrade my Acer Aspire 5516 of a $299 to a $1000 top performance laptop only adding $200 to the $299 for a total of $500.

Upgraded the CPU as you stated it was socket S1 so I use AMD Turion x2 64
Added a stick of 2 GB Ram (Remember it was dual-channel)
Upgrade the graphics card... even though it was intergrated...i was lucky...

I just remember that 32-bit can't handle more than 4 gb of ram so the upgrade for graphics card should minus some of that extra RAM...Maybe you can help me on that?

Re: How to Get Max Performance

The graphics draw has no relationship to the overall RAM performance if you upgrade to 4GB RAM

A 32 bit OS cannot run 4GB but 4GB but will do its best.

No reason not to run 4GB but do not expect it all to be used.

3.2 > 3.5 is usual and in most cases there is no need for more.

Re: How to Get Max Performance

- - Installed Physical Memory (RAM): *4Gb*
- - Total Physical Memory: *3Gb*.

What do I do?
I installed 4gb and it said 4gb, but it only use 3gb. Go figure, how to make it use all 4gb?

As Jephree said a 32-bit OS doesn't have the capability to handle 4 gb of ram. The only thing that you can do about that is to get a 64 bit operating system. In addition if your computer is using shared memory (which frequently happens with laptops) then you wouldn't be able to use all of it anyway.

Re: How to Get Max Performance

I did some research and realize that I could upgrade to 64-bit since I have all the correct drivers and BIOS for 64-bit for my system so it is able to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit.

I have two questions though:

1) Will MMORPG (Maplestory, Wonderking, Windslayer, SIMS, DFO, etc.) games work on 64-bit? I know 64-bit is faster than 32-bit and so I planned on using it for also videos and photo editing so would that also work.

2)How do you upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit? I know it has to be a clean install, but how?

Re: How to Get Max Performance

Most 32 bit software such as MMORPG games will run in x86 mode which is 32 bit on a 64 bit system.

There should be no conflict there.

To upgrade you need to purchase a 64 bit OS.

Windows 7 offers the choice of 32 or 64.

Re: How to Get Max Performance

you do have to do a clean reinstall to switch to the 64-bit version.
