Re: Test mode problem.

Welcome to D-A-L,

Sorry your post has been missed.

Have you restarted your machine? I think you are referring to 'Safe Mode'. Shut your computer down, wait for a minute then start it in the normal way by pressing the power button, do nothing else, just wait until it boots up completely before you do another thing.

Others may come by to assist if my suggestions above do not work for you.

kind regards,

From here
Quote:
[windows key] > type cmd | press CTRL+SHIFT + ENTER (to enter an elevated command prompt)
> type bcdedit.exe /set testsigning off then press ENTER > Restart your machine. Voila, gone
Ok the CTRL+SHIFT + ENTER didn't work for me so from the start menu your are going to have to browse to command prompt (all programs, accessories), right click on it and select run as administrator. After that type in the given command. Let us know if this works for you.

Re: Test mode problem.

I think that you might have more serious problems with your computer than the test mode. That might just be an indication that something else is going on. Right now all I know to suggest is to run the command prompt as administrator like before and type in sfc /scannow. I also suggest that you post in our malware section. Read this & post another thread here.

Only the D-A-L head security can help with malware so thats why I referred you to there; we don't handle those problems here. If I where you I would post a thread there to make sure that your computer is clean. I can't say for sure but I believe that viruses can corrupt system files and it seems that you have some kind of corruption. Whether or not it is related to viruses is something that you'll have to work with the malware team on determining.

As for the log file, Vista doesn't trust you with your own computer but there is usually a way to access files that are by default locked. To do so you will have to take ownership of the file or even the folder that it is in. Try the file first. Follow option 2 from step 4 on. Also how to analyze the CBS.log file.

Interestingly enough I was able to reverse the command and enable testing mode on a Vista virtual machine. The only difference I could tell was the test mode indicators. I don't really know why it was enabled for you though. It could have been a result of the system corruption. If you can I would go ahead and back up your files to prepare for the worst should it happen.
