Fonts Not Available to Control Panel

I have installed a lot of fonts onto my computer after I installed Windows XP Pro.

All these fonts are accessible in other programs such as Office 2003 and Adobe Photoshop CS and they can also be found in the font folder in Contol Panel. However, I can only find 3 ugly fonts when I am trying to change the desktop appearance under the control panel.

Is there a way to make all fonts in the font folder accessible when I try to make change to my desktop appearance and color scheme.

control panel > display > appearance > advanced > item > icon

this changes the font seen under the desktop icons. i get a full list when i go there. is this what you mean?

That is what I mean. I don't find the full list there. I supect that I may have to use Regedit to force it appear there but I don't want to do without good advice because I am just a layman to these windows commands.

Re: Fonts Not Available to Control Panel

I tried the classic view and checked the font folder there. I can see all my fonts there and that is why I can use all these fonts in Office 2003 and Photoshop CS and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Re: Fonts Not Available to Control Panel

I went into Appearance>Advance and tried to change to change the font of icons; palette title etc. I can only see 3 fonts instead of the full list avialable.

I know that is strange because I can see the full list in my computer at work.

I went into the Microsoft Newsgroup section and I seems to find an answer that I may have to change the Shell using Regedit but that is something I am reluctant to do because I don't have detailed instruction on how to make the change.

Re: Fonts Not Available to Control Panel

if you do work in the registry first back it up by Run > regedit > file > export.
choose a location and your registry will be saved in that file. should you need to restore the registry you can go to this back-up file and then import it back to the registry.

i've been searching "microsoft . public . windowsxp . general" newsgroup myself and havent found anything as "particular" as your problem.
did find this suggestion that you might consider:

"Most likely references in the registry have got fouled up. Usually the
way to deal with such things is to make changes - arbitrarily - and then
put things back

Go to Display - Appearance, click Advanced and look at the various items
selected in Items for the font in use. Change them and Apply. Then in
Display - Settings click advanced and change the DPI setting; Apply and
OK out. That should put you clean on a new set of fonts; you can then
adjust them (particularly putting DPI back again)"

if you have a newsreader you might want to post to
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
