Xp Home Edition Fails To Start Up

Hi

I have not installed any new software or hardware recently.

My PC fails to start up now, gets stuck at the splash screen sometimes and just hangs there however sometimes it dont even get that far. This has progressively gotten worse and so far I have replaced the CMOS battery and harddrive but to no effect.

I now always try to boot from CD (a genuine disc too). It gets as far as the blue screen saying that windows is starting up but it doesnt!! It just sits there in blissful ignorance, Im thinking that it must be the CPU or Motherboard but I certainly dont know enough about it to be sure. And nor do I really want to go out buying bits on spec either.

Any ideas??

Col

If it dont fit...force it. If ya cant force it...get a bigger hammer. If it breaks...it probably needed replacing anyway.
