network problem

i have windows xp on both machines, both have ethernet cards, and i have a crossover cable, i want to directly connect the two together and hopfully share the internet conection, but i am having no luck

thanks, i think my main problem was my firewall, i turned it off and i could connect, i am using zonelab pro firewall , how do i set it up so i can still network but keep the firewall on?

Assuming you are using ZA Pro version 4.5 please click HERE and look at chapter 3. It will tell you how to access and use the network setup wizard.
