digital signature nvidia graphics card

Hi everybody,

further to a threat I posted in the hardware issues section, regarding my graphics card I am after further advice.

I have a nvidia geforce fx 5200 graphics card and went to nvidia's site to update the driver. After the download I started the installation but about 30% through it XP flagged a error message saying the driver was not digitally signed and recommended stongly to abort the installation. This I did. I then went back to nvidia's site and downloaded the international driver, again on installation XP advised against installing at around 30%. I have choosen to ignore this flag and installed the driver. It seems ok and my applications run a lot better and games run a lot smoother but I am nagged by this error message.

I know I can rollback my driver but I was wondering, have I put a unstable driver from nvidia on my PC ? Should I just go with it and suck it and see or should I look else where for a driver update ?

Any advise would be welcome.

many thanks baxter

Re: digital signature nvidia graphics card

If things are working well I would not worry about it.
I found the following post concerning nvidia drivers at the link below:

"At a guess, you have your machine set to only accept signed drivers.

To change this, go to the System Properties control panel, Hardware tab,
Driver Signing button. Under Driver Signing, select "warn". This will allow
you to permit the installation of unsigned drivers.

Whether using unsigned drivers is a good idea, I couldn't say. I tend not to
worry about signing (or WHQL certification) as long as I've downloaded
drivers from a recognized source.
