Sound Lag issues?

i have delt with this problem since i first built the pc, and the company i bought the parts off couldnt even figure it out, the problem lies when i listening to music through windows media player, and than i start typing, the sound laggs reallly bad, but when i stop typing it goes back to being perfect.
sounds totally weird..
in which is it, now im pretty computer savvy, i can ususally find the problem but this time im outta ideas,
i just did a fresh install of windows
tried running it with certain programs just on,
its a XP2600 + 1 gig ram running dual channel, ( i used to run just 512) and it did the same thing!
windows xp pro
has any one come across anything like that?
not to mention my pc clock just started going retarded... mins are passing by in like 30 seconds its weird, so im going to replace the pc battery and see if that fix's the problem
any ways thanks for you help...
and it gets reeeeeeally bad when you type really fast... like i do
haha

thanks guys/gals

Joeh

Re: Sound Lag issues?

As to sound lag have you checked the Device Manager under keyboard & or sound for any yellow "!"

As to time have you checked Control Panel | Date & Time | Internet Time

As well as this manual reset:

1. Start->Run cmd
2. net stop w32time
3. w32tm.exe /unregister
4. w32tm.exe /register
5. net start w32time

Re: Sound Lag issues?

ok yes i know atleast that much, but since i didnt tell you that in the post, you had to assume, but yes there is nothing in the control panel that is disabled or has the yellow "!" everything is installed.. and it has the newest drivers, im starting to think it is just a mother board problem... like maybe the key board bios is shot, cuz it has dont it since i have had the thing...

and i tried the time register thing, with no luck
so thanks for the help on that one,
but as of right now im just more woried about the sound issue
its driving me INSANE!!

thanks again.

Re: Sound Lag issues?

Just another quick thought:

Do you have DirectX 9.0?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Are you using Media PLayer 10? Have you tried another player? Such as:

http://www.winamp.com/

Have you tried other keyboards? Is this a PS2 connection? USB? Wireless?

Is there a BIOS upgrade for your board?

Just thinking outloud

Question Re: Sound Lag issues?

ive got the newest direct x
umm i have tried a couple different keyboards.. both usb ps/2 and wireless
the unit im working with now is ps/2 and is wireless both mouse and keybaord

i have tried winamp before.. and i found its too much of a resource hog, hence why i have stopped using it.

as far as i know there are bios upgrades but for some reason my board wont take em lol its being a homo! ( not that theres anything wrong with that )

but any ways from all of the people i have taked to, they say its most likely the keyboard bios, which im not to worried about, as i plan on buying a new mobo and chip any ways, i also replaced the battrey on my mobo, and it sorta fixed the time, its not going AS fast any more but it still gains about a min or 2 a day which is annoying. so im starting to think its just the mother board.

but with that said. im going to go and fiddle with it some more to see if i cant figure this out!
thanks

Joeh

Re: Sound Lag issues?

Just out of curiosity have you tried the built in Media Player via:

start | run | MPLAYER2.EXE

Re: Sound Lag issues?

i have tried it, but it will only allow you to play one file at a time which is no good, and since i would like to use it to play multipal files, its just not fesable.

Re: Sound Lag issues?

Was just curious if it resolved the Lag?

Just trying to determine if the problem was the media software but your motherboard thoughts seem more relevant.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful
