Friend has XP Pro on his HP Pavillion (from pawn shop), so no O/S disk. Had installed Memorex Maxx40 CD-RW on his machine and was working fine.
Evidently, he tried to play a DVD in it and now the system thinks it's a DVD/CD-ROM. Uninstalling the device doesn't work as it "magically" reappears when I restart the system. He has no internet access, and I can't seem to find a free driver for the device.
Memrx has discontinuted this product and apparently have no support for those any longer.
Any suggestions? thanks for help and now that I am registered will continue to check out what you guys are doing.
ps-sorry, don't know html.

Re: CD-RW is confused

Are you familiar with opening the computer? Uninstall the software again & shut down.

Then unplug the CD-RW & then start again without it. After a full start:

Shut down again & then re-plug the CD-RW & it should be detected anew.
