Question How to FORCE programs to UNINSTALL?

Hi there

I have a couple of programms on my install/uninstall list that will not uninstall, these being Kazaa and ICQ, Is there a way of forceing this off the list? maybe they have gone some how but left a mark behind

When I try to open either program they dont work I get an error message and the same when I try to uninstall them from install/uninstall menu.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yummy

Re: How to FORCE programs to UNINSTALL?

Uninstall Programs Manually

Just because Windows XP has the Add/Remove Programs feature it doesn't mean your application will appear in the list. Furthermore, even if it does appear, it's no guarantee that the uninstall feature will work. When you run across one of these situations the items listed below will help in getting rid of the application. Be aware that these steps may not remove everything associated with the application and can impact other applications on the computer. Have a backup or restore point and use caution.

*

Find the directory for the application and delete all the files in the directory. Delete the directory.
*

Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*

Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*

To remove the application entry from Add/Remove Programs (if present) open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*

Some applications have Services attached to them. If this is the case, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es, locate and delete the service.
*

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the individual user settings and delete program references. Common places to check would be:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]

If no entries were found in the previous step and the application launches automatically, navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
and delete the entry.

ALSO:

Kazaa Removal Steps:

"1) http://www.phazeshift.co.uk/
dl the cd_clint.dll file and put it back in the right directory. chances are
it got deleted when running a spyware removing program.

2) go into your regedit. go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\mi*crosoft\windows\cur rent version\uninstall. The
first few folders under this will have a bunch of numbers and letters. click
on each one of them and look in the right pane. look for anything that
mentions kazaa. delete that folder from the left pane (the whole folder).

3) http://www.spywareinfo.com/~me*rijn/...azaabegone.zip
dl kazaa begone. run this and kazaa should be removed from your system. then
try running spybot to make sure all the spyware is gone."

Ask away We're here to help. Or at least try

This program has an Add/Remove feature as well as a Registry Cleaner:

Thumbs up Re: How to FORCE programs to UNINSTALL?

I have removed ICQ and a couple of other pograms the way you said, Thank you!

but Kazaa just wont budge from my install/uninstall menu ... plus another SMS program. I had on the system.

Im going to give those links above a try and see if they can get rid of them.

One last thing there are lots of things on the software list that I dont even know what they are? should i be worried about this??

THANK YOU ONCE AGIAIN

Re: How to FORCE programs to UNINSTALL?

That RegSeeker has a startup option where you can easily disable & reinable items.

Kazza probably needs that Kazza Be Gone.

Also:
please follow owen's Instructions and then post your log in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section (Not Here).
