Re: deleting everything

Is the computer that bad its needs a format and reinstall?

Before you delete everything have you all the drivers for your motherboard, graphics, sound and any other hardware you have been using?

Re: deleting everything

How did you try to install?

How did it mess up?

Your hard drive manufacturer probably has a tool to totally wipe the drive as well.

Here is a list: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

A Clean Install of XP should wipe the drive.

As brain_damage mentioned make sure you have all your drivers on disks.

Re: deleting everything

In essence; yes.

Is this a full version XP CD you are installing or a Recovery Disk from an OEM?

Re: deleting everything

Basically what happened was I thought I could fix it and now when I get on the computer a screen comes on that asks me if I want to get on Windows XP or Windows Xp and both of them do not work. The first is missing crucial files and the second wont even let me get on it. The disk I have came with the Dell Package and is a maroon disk that says "Reinstallation Disk"... If that is not right what do I do. If it is right can I start???

Re: deleting everything

Sounds like what you need & it should return the machine to factory settings.

Have you tried using it before?

If you want to verify the process: what is the exact Dell model?

We can look it up on-line.
